Lecture and research topics of the 3-year curriculum: The course provides a multidisciplinary training in basic, translational and clinical aspects of molecular and cell biology and genetics. General aspects and recent developments in these fields are covered and modern technologies such as cellular biochemistry, RNA interference, live-cell imaging, high throughput screening techniques, functional genomics, bioinformatics, fluorescence methods, and animal models are introduced.

The monthly lectures provide insight into the function and regulation of genes and chromatin, the structure and function of proteins and their interplay, biogenesis and the function of cellular organelles, cell physiology, the principles of signal transduction, and the regulation of cell behaviour, intercellular communication and development. Moreover, specific functions of selected cell types are also introduced with a focus on stem cells and endothelial cells. Finally, the significance of altered gene regulation and function as well as cell behaviour in physiological and pathological processes such as cancer and aging are discussed. These topics represent core areas of basic and translational research at the Faculties of Biology and Medicine.
